As a STEM major, there are very few opportunities to write anything other than lab reports and research papers. For this reason, I was glad to have the chance to come up with a piece that was more personal and had more room for creativity. As important as technical writing is to my discipline, it is important that I am able to write in a more conversational and expressive tone. When talking about my research or my plans for the future, I want my passion to show through my writing, and this was a great way to practice for that.
That being said, this topic is something that I strongly believe. In this podcast, I talk about my struggle when it comes to making decisions, and about how I've come to terms with it. As I say in this piece, we are always being told to make a decision -- to place ourselves into categories. I'd like to argue, however, that I don't have to decide. I have a lot of goals, but I have plenty of time to acheive them all.
Going through the writing and recording process with this piece, I thought a lot about my future and where I'm headed. Sure, I am a very technically minded person. But that doesn't mean that I shouldn't practice writing pieces that are more informal and creative. I strive to be well-rounded, whether it is my writing styles or my interests and goals.
This I Believe I Don't Have to Decide
